What is Credit Repair?
Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act {FCRA), every consumer has rights related to their credit report:
- Equifax, TransUnion, & Experian must provide free credit reports to the public & individuals are permitted to request that inaccurate information be moved from these reports
- Consumers are given the right to dispute any entry that is incorrect, incomplete, or untimely – these dis- putes must be investigated within 30 DAYS for credit agencies to comply with the law – a credit repair company can file these disputes for you
- Since only incorrect information & information that is well passed it’s “expiration date” can be fixed, beware of fraudulent credit repair companies who claim they can wipe your report clean within a matter of days or for a significant fee upfront – the dispute process takes time, avoid being coerced into deception
